ASK YOUR RELATIVE QUESTIONS

How do I deal with having to start at a new school?

It’s never easy going to a new school. There are so many variables, and enough anxiety to drive a buffalo off a cliff. That’s okay! I always believe in acknowledging the uncomfortable so we can create room to grow and strengthen ourselves. I have a few tips for helping the first day jitters.

Take it one day at a time. Be patient; with your environment, peers and most importantly yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but they worked on it every day

Set milestones for yourself. Setting positive expectations for the day. Make it to class on time, say hi to someone at lunch etc. make sure they are easily accomplished and will make yourself feel good and comfortable about your new surroundings.  My nephew on his first day at a new school said his goal was to make one friend by the end of the week. It doesn’t take much to start believing in yourself

I know, I know! Uncle only focusing on positives. So if your day isn’t going well. Take inventory of your support system.  Friends, Family, Hobbies? Find somewhere that universal and matches your passions. A gym, library, art room etc. Sometimes a change of environment is all you need to lighten the load.

Be genuine, honest and put forward your most authentic self. People will gravitate towards you. People that like you for you. You are an amazing indigenous individual. Own it!

These things take time to materialize. Everything you experienced at your previous school and everything you will experience at your new.  Put yourself in a position to flourish.
