I am graduating and going to college in less than a week. I’ve heard that college parties get out of control. What should I do?

Hey Jordan… Congrats on getting into college! That’s awesome.

So, what I can say about college parties is that, yes, there is definitely a party scene at most schools, but there are also other scenes at colleges too. Remember that the main reason you and everyone else are there is to study and earn a degree.

The reality is that if you’re looking for a party, you’ll probably be able to find one pretty easily. On the flip side, people at college all have at least one thing in common… they’re there because they want to get an education.

Some may take partying too far and end up having to drop out of school. Others will find a better balance, either by skipping the party scene altogether, or by being really careful about not getting too out of control, though that can be incredibly tricky, so be careful if you go down this road. Remember, it is always your decision if you drink and how much you drink.

Also, parties can just get hyped up by incoming freshman, as well as parents who are worried about their kids going off to school. And when you think about it this makes sense – incoming freshman are stoked about being on their own for the first time and sometimes just want to go crazy. So they talk crazy, which is better than acting crazy I guess. :/ Often freshman, talk about urban legend parties they heard about from someone’s older brother, or from a friend of a friend. Things are never what they’re like in the movies. You imagine a scene from Neighbors, but the reality is you probably won’t be able to find that kind of party.

Jordan you’re going to have to make the final decision about the choices you make. Ultimately, you’ll be responsible for those choices. So my advice is to keep in mind what you’re there for and go from there.
