The first ever Native American language cartoon series celebrated its one year anniversary September 2012. The series set out with the goal of bringing the Lakota language and values to families in Lakota speaking communities in North and South Dakota and beyond.
The 20 episode Lakota language edition of the Berenstain Bears was broadcast in North and South Dakota and featured the voices of Lakota-speaking Standing Rock, Cheyenne River, Pine Ridge, and Rosebud community members.
The Lakota Berenstain Bears Project is a joint venture of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Lakota Language Consortium and produced and distributed with permission of Berenstain Enterprises, Inc., Nelvana Limited and Public Broadcasting System.
