A key step to adopt the ancestral way of life is to know what foods you should eat. The following are tips to identify the ancestral foods:
- Find local, organic, non-GMO, seasonal, and environmentally sustainable foods when possible
- Make your own meals at home
- Any foods that can be fished, hunted, or gathered
- Any foods that can be harvested from the earth or water, and tossed in a fresh salad
- Foods and drinks that need little or no labeling, minimal packaging, very few ingredients, and have undergone minimal travel
- Foods that are low in carbs like yams and sweet potatoes
- Foods that are nutrient-dense, dairy-free, and lack additives and preservatives
- Foods that contain less than 4-5 ingredients if it is in a package, and are all real foods
- No foods that contain artificial substances/poisons like chemicals, flavors, hydrogenated components, maltodextrin, sugar, yeast, corn syrup, or other broken parts of whole foods
- Ancestral foods are usually single, whole ingredient such as fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds
