T’Neale Barney

T’Neale Barney, Navajo, age 20, is a sophomore in college and has a passion to promote the power of education. Every summer, before school was back in session, her mother would harangue her about the importance of doing well in school and attending college. Her lecturing was repetitive, but it was an idea that fixed in her mind; she now attends the University of New Mexico and will graduate with a Bachelors’ in Biology Fall 2017. As a WRN ambassador she wants to establish a comfortable environment and relationship with teens so that they approach her confidently to answer any questions that may burden them. As a counselor for the the National Indian Youth Leadership Project, T’Neale has a head start in her pursuit to learn how to safely approach risky topics with teens. Welcome T’Neale to the WRN team!

Hello! First off I wanted to thank you for taking the time to do this & help educate others. It is greatly appreciated! My question is how I can make art & spread awareness about indigenous issues as a white woman. I grew up in the black hills of South Dakota and recently lost a friend who was m*rdered & she is now part of the long list of MMIW. I am a talented artist & want to make pieces to bring light to this issue and sell as NFTs, with all proceeds donated to MMIW & programs back home to help young women. Being white though, I want to tread carefully and do this right. Any advice and recommendations are appreciated! #MMIW #LongLiveDominiqueBrave
