Starting your new job can be exciting, but it can also be stressful and overwhelming. Here are some suggestions for easing the transition:
Familiarize yourself with your workplace. On your first day, your employer should show you around your workplace, including where the toilets, kitchen and staff rooms are. If he or she doesn’t offer, make sure you ask.
Check out the most efficient way to get to work. Do not be late for you first day of work. Meet Co-workers. Attend company social events. Say hello and introduce yourself.
Understand your job responsibilities. Keep your job description handy so you can keep track of tasks that you are responsible for.
Ask questions. Employers don’t expect you to know all the answers, and asking questions can show that you have a willingness to learn, which can be really impressive.
Give it time. Starting a new job, particularly if you’re making the transition to full-time work after school, can be a shock to the system.
Deal with any problems. Find out who the person to speak with is if you have any workplace issues or problems.
Chill out and make some time for yourself. It’s important to make time after work and on the weekends to chill out and make some time for yourself to recharge. Also, be sure to get enough sleep.
