Dear Tojan/Toska (Tow-Jhawn/Tow-Skah), What a great question. In this day and age we are at a great advantage to all the helpful information that is provided to us by the click of a button!
- Some great places I’ve found to assist with regalia making are:
- Your local indigenous community will usually have a class set up for anyone wanting to learn (This is a great way to interact with community members, items will usually be provided & you learn a skill, it’s a win-win!)
- Trading posts are so useful! They have patterns available for anyone wanting to make their own regalia (depending on the style you’d like to dance)
- Jump online! Youtube (type in “Pow-wow regalia making” and it will provide a lot of different videos, or Tik Tok (type in “Pow-Wow Regalia”)
When coming to these spaces, always remember to come with respect and integrity. You can also check out Powwows.com for advice on the basics, including etiquette, as well as dance music, video’s, and info on dance styles.
I hope this was helpful to you! Happy creating! ?
