Unfortunately, there are no specific National Native led suicide prevention hotline numbers that I am aware of. We do understand that one is needed though. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide I would encourage you to reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or a local hotline number if there is one in your area. Another option is to call the Youthline through Lines for Life at 1-877-968-8491, or you can text “teen2teen” to 839863 or chat online at lifeline-chat.org.
There are also a lot of tribes that have local suicide (and other) prevention teams. I encourage you to reach out to your local prevention team and about their suicide prevention efforts, events, and activities.
For other Native specific National Hotlines, there is the StrongHearts Native Helpline. It is a culturally appropriate domestic violence helpline for Native Americans available every day from 7:00am to 10:00pm Central Time and the number is 1-844-762-8483. There is also a Native Women’s Crisis Line at 1-877-209-1266.
Thank you for reaching out. What an amazing question.
