March is National Nutrition Month and a time to focus, or refocus 🙂 on what we eat and how it can help support a healthy life! Eating healthy means getting the right balance of nutrients your body needs. A healthy plan includes fruits, vegetables, low-fat milk products, lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, nuts, and whole grains. So, what can you do during National Nutrition Month?
- Move Everyday. Being active can help you stay healthy, happy & fit. Finding an activity that’s fun is an important first step. Check out some traditional games! No matter what activity you enjoy doing, wherever you enjoy doing it, try getting 60 minutes of activity everyday.
- Eat more traditional foods. Hunt, fish, gather, grow. Eating more traditional foods like natural, whole, organic food is a key step to a stronger and healthier life! Learn more about figuring out what kinds of foods to eat at www.wellforculture.com
- Drink lots of water. This one’s easy. Reach for a tall glass of water, instead of sugar-sweetened drinks.
- Try out some delicious recipes. One of our favorite things are smoothies and there is not a better recipe than these two:
Pina colada smoothie:
- Frozen pineapple ½ cup
- Frozen Banana half cut into pieces
- Handful of spinach or kale
- Coconut water ½ cup or more until blends smooth
PB&J Smoothie:
- Frozen blueberries ½ cup
- Frozen Banana half cut into pieces
- Handful of spinach or kale
- Spoon full of peanut butter
- Nut milk of choice ½ cup or more until blends smooth
- For smoothie bowl, pour smoothie in bowl and put favorite toppings of choice i.e. granola, nuts and fresh fruit cut up 🙂
